About Us - Beginnings of the Ministry

During the 1980’s Ruth Webb had been serving as music director in her local church in Bendigo, a provincial city in central Victoria. Late in the 80’s music and worship began to change quite dramatically. Previous to this time many described the worship as being "heavenly". As the music began to change, many people, including Ruth, began to feel uneasy with the new direction. Much to her surprise, the Lord began to expose the idolatry in her own heart. This was a time of much upheaval and discomfort because although faithfully serving the Lord in the local church, it was clear that the true condition of her heart was that other things had replaced her first love of the Lord.

A new season began as Ruth's relationship with the Lord was restored and in that intimacy of worship, the Lord began to answer her questions about why the worship had changed. One day the Lord spoke very clearly, almost audibly: "The spirit of rock has entered the church. If it is not repented of it will destroy true worship". This statement evoked more and more questions. Eventually the Lord directed Ruth to put all that He had revealed into a book.

Five years of prayer, research and spiritual warfare later, Restoring True Worship was completed. In 1993 Heart of the Psalmist was founded to publish and distribute this book. From this small beginning, other literature, including the quarterly newsletter Praise Alert, and music have been produced and the Webb family have traveled throughout Australia and New Zealand conducting worship seminars, leading worship and sharing God’s heart for worship with congregations.
